Handling-wise, the A7 II resembles a downsized DSLR, with a forward-placed shutter release button and front control wheel. It also has a deeper, more comfortable handgrip than its forebear. The biggest news about the A7 II was that is was the first full-frame digital camera to feature in-body stabilisation. This means that the sensor can move to correct for accidental camera movements in five directions during the exposure. When a stabilised Sony lens is used, the stabilisation effect is optimised, but not cumulative: either one or the other system is used. Dan Barcaglia... If, as you say, the A7ii is within a stone's throw of equalling a D750, Sony's done very well. I've spent an hour with the camera in a store, and I think the heft is actually an advantage vs. the A7. The bulk that bothers you is a function of adding the grip, which improves the camera. (In the review, you show the A7 next to the A7ii with a larger lens, which is not quite fair.) The colour is natural, resolution is plenty, some files when taken properly kinda look great to me.I don't shoot weddings, sports, or news. There are other professional venues besides those, where taking the 30 seconds to change a battery is not a big deal.

Faster Auto FocusCompared to the A7: This was one of the reasons I didn’t buy the original a7 when it came out. Any full frame sensor will print A2 easily unless you are a real pixel peeper. I have great A2, even A1 images from my 6Mp Fuji S2 Pro. Yes more Mp gives more detail but 12Mp is quite enough - unless you want to heavily crop. Also the A7s better in low light (a big plus) with smaller files and less demanding of lenses. The stabilization corrects X and Y axis movements as well as pitch, roll and yaw for both still and movie recording. When a stabilised Sony lens is used on the camera the two systems combine to give optimised performance, choosing the best one to use for the focal length and each type of correction. The stabilization effect is optimised, but not cumulative, as one or the other system is used, not both. Because the outside of the box matters so much, well not. (And a year 2000 laptop with an optical drive looks so different than a laptop with an optical drive in 2014, again not.) We haven’t fully tested the video capability of the A7 II, but our initial assessment is that it produces high-quality footage, which generally looksnatural.
