Description

The Argon EON case for the Raspberry Pi 4 ( not included) allows you to build your very own 4-bay Raspberry Pi NAS!

Perhaps the “move back” isn’t the best term for starting everything from scratch with the Argon Eon case, but it’s not my first Raspberry Pi NAS – so it felt back like going back to the roots. We moved on to testing the thermal properties of the Argon EON and, as we have a tall, open case with heatsinks and a 12V case fan, we felt assured that cooling would be good. What’s fantastic about the case is the power button that doubles as an OLED display that you can customise yourself. I know in the whole NAS networking industry 40TB isn’t much, but as far as Raspberry Pi storage is concerned that’s more than enough to keep your data safe. You can use the backup plugin (I don't use it and don't know how it works but a lot people here does) and make ddfull backup of the OS. I think it's even made it a bit quieter, now it's not as snugly pressed against the solid metal lid.

I got a mere 16TB to fill all four bays and managed to get my wallet painfully thinner in the process.

I'm generally quite pleased, but I do disagree with the author of the review about the ease of use of OpenMediaVault. Whereas previous NAS projects often involve a USB hub and cables to external drives, the EON fits up to four drives in an enclosure with a single power source. I've enjoyed all the Argon 40 cases I've tried, though, and I've a one-slot NAS in an Argon One for Raspberry Pi 4 as my remote backup server. Ok, I just wanted to be sure that I'm not trying something that has already failed many times just because I don't know the history.

As Raspberry Pi 4 has removed the biggest limitation of the board for NAS use, Argon Eon offers access at 1Gbps via Ethernet. Unaware of that (as my Argon Eon was constantly connected to the network) I run into some troubles caused by my NAS’ time being constantly reset to 2020!Gets a bit confused about btrfs drives with no partitions, tho': it says "sd" instead of "sda" on the storage utilisation screen.
