He has been gardening correspondent for the Observer since 1994 and is at the forefront of the environmental and organic gardening debate. He has written a weekly gardening column for the Daily Mail since 2004, and published over 20 books, including the bestsellers Down to Earth, Nigel: My Family and Other Dogs, and My Garden World.

The book covers most aspects of gardening; from the coppice he has established to dry areas and parts that flood, to the comprehensive range of fruit and vegetables, from topiary to his passion for flowers, it’s all there. While the soil, weather, and temperatures are very different where I live, there is still a lot of information that is applicable.

The book is then divided into months but it isn’t a book with your typical monthly listings of things to do. At one end of the garden, a path curves round to the writing hut where the author can work on his books. A journey through beautiful Islamic gardens across the world, with photographs by the acclaimed Derry Moore.
