At least there aren't many pops or distracting surface noise issues, but I'd have rather had those than have a brilliant album be reduced to a shell of what it could have been.

That unmistakable Cocteau bass and guitar, loads of reverb softening the sound to the typical sonic dreamscape. The reissue only scratches the surface of the sound involved in this pressing- the reissue lacks any of the passion and depth of this lp; it just sits there where this pressing surrounds you with their sound. Road, River and Rail' is a seriously down-beat track, almost sounding Joni Mitchell-ish, circa Hejira and then, finally, `Frou Frou Foxes in Midsummer Fires', a gentle, laid-back start, reminiscent of older Cocteau, blossoming into a fairly conventional (for the Cocteau's) song, finally fading away.

I only "discovered" the Cocteau Twins a couple of weeks ago, thanks to Steve Lamacq on 6 Music when he played the whole albumn on one of his shows and I knew then and there, that I had to have this album! It was the band’s last album for 4AD, and was their most commercially successful possibly due to Elizabeth Fraser’s much more intelligible lyrics.

Depending on where you live, the time it may take for your exchanged product to reach you, may vary. with Fraser’s famously incoherent vocals at their most intelligible, it’s the product of hours of obsessive studio craft. I'm starting to think there are no good vinyl releases of this album, nothing beats the 24bit lossless files you can get online. Fotzepolitic', electric twelve string guitars or something, almost an electronic acoustic strumming wall of sound. The joy of Heaven or Las Vegas is that you don’t need to know what Fraser is saying (even if the few discernible lyrics are immensely personal) to fall into a stupor.

The album is noteworthy for the musical evolution that the band displayed at the time, with their work becoming more accessible. Fraser simply captivates; her vocals are the clearest, most direct they've ever been, purring with energy and life. Literally sounds like someone ran the entire album through a maxed-out limiter and boosted the bass to appease newer fans who prefer heavy bass over clear mixes. I've listened to tracks on this album hundreds of times and this does not hold a candle to the original 1990 CD mix or the 2003 digital remaster.
