Description

Published on the occasion of an exhibition organized by the Metropolitan Museum's Costume Institute, this stunning book includes a preface by curator Andrew Bolton; an introduction by Susannah Frankel; an interview with Sarah Burton, creative director of the house of Alexander McQueen, conducted by Tim Blanks; and illuminating commentary from the designer himself. If you're a fan of Alexander McQueen's work or simply a fashion aficionado, you must pick up this incredible book pronto!

I can state though that even though I find it impossible that there might be some people that don't know about McQueen, this is a good starting point to get to know him and his work. I first saw mcqueens work in a documentary about the met gala, and I was immediately struck with how much I gravitated toward his work.Selected items may be purchased early for dispatch from the future date given in their product information.

The exhibition, organized by The Costume Institute, will celebrate the late Alexander McQueen's extraordinary contributions to fashion. Fine 1st ed 2011 hardback with hologram cover, beautifully illustrated, comes with publisher's sheet. The show and book, Savage Beauty, offer plenty of ammunition to the charge that the fashion and art world will never see the like of Alexander McQueen again. Despite his untimely death, McQueen's rebellious spirit and revolutionary way of thinking will hopefully inspire the next generation of great designers. I was wondering if the book features the spine “corset” or the horned jacket from “It’€™s a Jungle Out There”…….My idea was always to show reality, even though I started at Savile Row and ended up at Givenchy in Paris; to depict the times I live in. No matter how I try to express my concern over the mystification of the tragic genius, the only way to end this is to say, What a shame.

In place of the hugely evocative and wildly dramatic wide-angled images for which McQueen's presentations were well-known, are Solve Sundsbo's quieter and mournfully lovely photographs of his work, often seen up close, and that elevate McQueen from showman to bona fide artist . The book also offers a review of all of his catwalk collections, illustrated with images by leading fashion photographers, and specially commissioned photographs that capture the his supreme skills and the breath taking theatre of his shows. Amazed by how intuitively precise McQueen was with his work, I find the stills in this book even more breath-taking. If you do not know the back story for each collection, you are missing most of the pleasure of understanding his take on the subject, and judging it solely for its appearance.Draper, James David, and Edouard Papet, with Elena Carrara, Nadège Horner, Laure de Margerie, Jean-Claude Poinsignon, and Philip Ward-Jackson. This weighty tome is published by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York to accompany their spring 2011 exhibition in celebration of McQueen’s work. There is minimal text, most of it being a summary of interviews with McQueen prior to his death and then with those he was close to after his unfortunate passing. Hyun, Shanay Jhaveri, Ronda Kasl, Wolfram Koeppe, Elizabeth Mankin Kornhauser, Alisa LaGamma, Sarah Lepinski, Pengliang Lu, Virginia McBride, Constance McPhee, Asher E.

There are also some sets of smaller photographs that are live action shots from various runway presentations. While most people, by now, will have heard much about the exhibition Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty, . Drawn primarily from the Alexander McQueen Archive in London, with some pieces from the Givenchy Archive in Paris as well as private collections, signature designs including the "bumster" trouser, the kimono jacket, and the three-point "origami" frock coat will be on view. It reveals how McQueen adapted and combined the fundamentals of Savile Row tailoring, the specialized techniques of haute couture—such as lacework, embroidery, and featherwork—and technological innovation to achieve his distinctive aesthetic.
