Traditionalists like the Pub Curmudgeon are annoyed at the apparent pandering to the youth market — what’s wrong with appealing to middle-aged and older people? any other member of the Carlsberg Marston's Group (which includes Carlsberg Marston's Limited, CMBC Supply Limited and any other Carlsberg Marston's Group trading division or group company from time to time),any member of the Carlsberg Shareholder’s group, which means its other subsidiaries, its shareholders, the ultimate holding company of the Carlsberg Shareholder's group and its subsidiaries (‘Carlsberg Group Entities’ ); and I really enjoy a pint of Pedigree, so please don’t think that I’m naming replacements because they are better. I’m always ranting about the wank-puffins who couldn’t run a bath in an honest manner, let alone a business.

The maturing process from the yeast also means the flavour is much closer to the cask Pedigree you'd taste in the pub. I was brought up on Draught Bass and Pedigree when I was a youngster in the 70’s, both pretty much ruined now. A few years ago I did a conference presentation on how (and how not) to do innovation, and when I illustrated this with numerous examples of rubbish launches, it started to look like a vendetta against the world’s biggest brewery. They ended up having to sell most of Bass (the company) to what is now Molson Coors, but confusingly held on to Bass (the beer) and proceeded to largely ignore it in the UK for the next twenty years. They also constantly look backwards and maintain a sense of history and tradition – look at Fullers Vintage ale etc.Hope you can do this; a fascinating topic, and I’ll bet we’ll be seeing more companies attempt this sort of thing in the years ahead. Not sure where they’re at these days but St Austell did bottle-condition Tribute, at least for a while.

It’s certainly not something they had to do and, we suspect, is a deep-level gesture to beer geeks, and especially to CAMRA members. I’ll have to see whether the redesign has any effect on sales (the last attempt, making the letters “IPA” twice the size on Old Empire, didn’t have much effect). Palm seemed more grounded, less aspirational – it’s symbol of a Brabant Shire Horse the perfect manifestation. Regarding the swearing;given the subject matter, I find your restraint little short of fucking staggering.I think in a funny way– a way that almost defies logic– the label is a part of any product experience.
