Description

Every component is built to the highest of standards, guaranteeing high-end sonic performance and maximum durability for studio recording, mixing and mastering applications.

Note: there is also a TotalMix for iPad app, which is what you’ll want if you want to use an iPad itself for recording and mixing. TotalMix Remote is simply for network control (of an RME device connected to another computer on the network). The specially developed, internal hi-performance switch mode power supply lets the 802 operate in the range of 100V to 240V AC, thus can be operated all over the world. It is short-circuit proof, has an integrated line-filter, is fully regulated against voltage fluctuations, and suppresses mains interference. Stand Alone Operation with Setup Recall Founded in 1977 in Skanderborg, Denmark, Dynaudio has over 40 years of experience in producing cutting-edge loudspeakers. This little box represents incredible quality and features that are good enough for pros, and within reach for all who are serious about sound, making it my product of 2021.” We’re impressed by the attention to detail in TotalMix and the associated hardware capability that sets RME apart. For example, the ability to properly live-monitor a mid/side pair of inputs, and individual reference level setting for each line in/out, making it more straightforward to connect up a wide range of external gear.

With the RME Fireface UCX II now available to buy in the UK, we take a look at what you can expect from what RME are calling their first ‘Advanced Audio Interface’. I installed the UCX II in my studio about 2 weeks ago and am loving it...and I know I'm so far only scratching the surface of what I know I can do with it. I'm excited to dig in deeper still. TotalMix DSP mixer with parametric 3-band EQ, highpass, delay, reverb, compressor, expander and auto Level - completely latency-free and storable

Noting RME’s “relentless focus on driver quality, reliability and product longevity”, reviewer Sam Inglis outlines RME’s continued philosophy of designing long-lasting and ultra-reliable professional audio hardware. The RME ARC USB is a USB 1.1 MIDI remote control - thanks to operating as a UAC 1 class device, it is natively compatible to Windows and Mac OS X. As soon as it is present in the operating system, TotalMix FX will automatically detect the ARC USB, and communicate with it via simple MIDI remote commands to control the UCX II. Developed in time to celebrate the company's 25th anniversary, the RME Fireface UCX II represents the culmination and refinement of 25 years of digital audio innovation. Celebrating 25 years of RME The complete effects section not only adds flexibility to the recording chain , but even does away with the need for an external mixer or additional latency-inducing software. Latency-free monitor mixes can be easily created - complete with EQ and Reverb - e.g. for the main studio monitors and the headphone of the vocalist(s) in the recording room. I heard immediate serious improvement to overall sound quality going out to my studio's nearfields (previously I had been using my Apogee Rosetta 200 converter as my AD/DA frontend to the old Quad-Capture). And with all the additional I/O the UCX II provides for me, I love now having so many more options now to route to and from my various hardware processors. The pot-controlled gain of up to 60 dB, adjustable over a range of 54 dB, is individually set for every preamp on the front of the 802.

TotalMix DSP mixer with parametric 3-band EQ, high pass, delay, reverb, compressor, expander and auto level - completely latency-free and storable RME is a German company founded in 1996 by a small group of professional audio engineers and designers. Of TotalMix FX, Sam writes “it would probably
take a book to list all its features; it’s no exaggeration to say that TotalMix FX is as capable as many dedicated digital mixers.” Like all RME audio interfaces, the Fireface UCX II features TotalMix FX, the powerful on-board DSP mixer and software. TotalMix gives you the ability to route any hardware or software input to any physical output, creating near limitless possibilities in terms of mixing. Because TotalMix is DSP-based, all the processing takes place within the UCX II. This means the interface offers latency-free monitoring as well as the ability to create complex routings without any performance issues. With the original RME Fireface UCX now approaching ten years since its release, RME chose 2021 as the time to release its successor, a high-quality sonic upgrade that brings the UCX into line with RME Audio’s other latest generation of high-performance audio interfaces. I'd been wanting to upgrade to an RME interface for some time, from my aging Roland Quad-Capture - so when I saw the advance announcements for the new UCX II I was excited to jump onto it. And I must say: it was absolutely worth the wait: the difference is like night and day from what I had been using previously. The Fireface UCX also featured the new DSP-powered FX section of TotalMix FX, offering enhanced latency-free monitoring and unlimited submix routing, and was in essence designed to offer a more compact and lower channel-count version of the RME Fireface UFX (the RME Audio flagship interface at the time). But when you have just installed the company's driver, you will need to restart the machine, for TotalMix FX to be turned on. It looks harder to use on the inside than it looks on the outside.

The full-blown feature set also includes optional Class Compliant mode and operation with TotalMix FX for iPad, RME’s app to fully control the 802 from the iPad, without any computer. The easy to use app includes metering for all 90 channels plus effects bus, different setup screens, and complete control of all features. The additional TotalMix Remote is a remote control for TotalMix FX, to control the hardware mixer and effects in RME audio interfaces. TotalMix Remote mirrors the current state of the host system on the iPad and Windows/Mac computers - the entire mixing state, the complete routing, all FX settings, up to the level meters, and everything in real-time. Easily adjust all the mixer and FX settings from a distance, via Ethernet and WiFi. Throughout its 25 year history, RME has been fully committed to a principle of flexibility - the more flexible a product, the more easily it can be adapted to new requirements. For company founder Matthias Carstens, this lies at the heart of RME's success: "The Fireface UCX II makes us proud and enthusiastic as it represents a natural evolution of our product range." Read Luke Goddard’s full Fireface UCX II review for Production Expert or watch our overview video below to learn more about RME’s all-new Advanced USB Audio Interface. For users who rely on the routing power that TotalMix offers, Class Compliant operation means that the UCX II can also be connected directly to an iPad. When paired with the TotalMix for iPad app, any iPad running iOS version 9 and above can turn their tablet into a fully-fledged TotalMix workspace.

RME's Next-gen UCX with Femtosecond Clock

Alongside Control Room functionality, TotalMix features a range of effects to improve monitoring. A 5-band parametric EQ and Dynamics are available on every channel, whilst Reverb and Delay sends allow for enhanced monitor mixes during recording. The successor to the popular Fireface UCX, the UCX II is RME’s most powerful 1/2U interface ever created. A flexible and mobile interface for use with Macs, PCs and iPads, the UCX II is a cutting-edge central hub for modern studio recording and live performance setups, and includes full standalone operation (with the option to create multi-channel recordings straight to USB storage devices, aka DURec).
