Description

Now, although Abus steel is renowned for it’s strength to weight ratio, I’m dubious as to whether it would fare better than the 8020 against a pair of 42″ bolt cutters! The ABUS Granit CityChain X-Plus 1060 has once again reminded me of the quality that ABUS provide for their customers. If it works for you, that’s great. It’s such a beefy chain that most thieves aren’t even going to try to mess with it. I’ve heard from a few sources that if the Mastiff isn’t maintained correctly, it can stiffen up and sometimes rust will begin to show.

Our ranking system The TopChoice.co.uk Team selects top-of-the-line items from a wide selection and conducts rigorous evaluations on almost all the products available on the internet. We rank each product based on how well it matches our criteria. In the end, between the Kryptonite in 10mm and the Abus in 8mm there is 800g difference, is it really a gain ? But I don’t want to pay this much money and carry this much weight around, in return for psychological protection alone! Hexagonal links present more surface area than a standard round chain link which make cutting and sawing through the Mastiff chain extremely difficult. You'll have to come with a different way to protect your wheels, but there's load of options and at least your bike will be safe! But these chains certainly can be cut by bolt cutters if the thief knows what they’re doing and can get the chain in a favorable position. That’s not to say you shouldn’t buy either of them. They’re both pretty secure. Just not top level.

The largest bolt croppers are hard for thieves to conceal in public, so they tend to opt for smaller portable cutters. These would struggle to break through the Mastiff’s titanium hardened 10mm links. Be aware though, registering directly through OnGuard is for US customers only! How secure is the OnGuard 8020 Mastiff? Just to drive this point home, the 8020 Mastiff offers you the same practical level of protection as the 7 mm Kryptonite Keeper or the 6 mm Hiplok Lite. A 99% waste diversion rate within their factories is one accolade I was impressed by, alongside a 50% share of renewable energy in their energy mix.Links with diameters of between 10 and 12 mm can sometimes be cut by medium size bolt cutters if the thief knows what they are doing and can get good leverage on the chain.

Any data that needs further explanation is annotated with * and further details are provided at the foot of the table. Does anyone remember the name of the company that offered a chain like thing? (solid chromium steel links) segmented like an armadillos tail?

Contact

I haven’t used one personally but they look really good! I’m not sure how widely available they are though? They use inside information from the police and insurers to keep their tools and methods up to date If you only use it to secure your frame (tightly wrapped around your top tube), you can keep the chain shorter (and lighter). And even more significantly: it will be further from the ground so it will be much harder for a thief to crop it.

No surprises so far. We know a big chain like this is going to be heavy, but fairlystraightforward to use. Andwe’d also expect itto also provide a pretty high level of protection. Unfortunately it doesn’t. So if you're high risk, which should it be: Gold or Diamond? Well the truth is: it's a bit complicated at the moment! I just am a bit puzzled, as I too thought the Series 2 integrated chain was Sold Secure silver-rated, but this article says that it’s gold-rated: This sheath absorbs water if left exposed to the elements, so if you’re transporting the chain in your bag, you may want to carry a plastic bag in bad weather. Most bigger brands provide a key replacement service for their customers, which provides customers with additional peace of mind.ABUS offer their customers a 24-month warranty on all of their products, including the ABUS Granit CityChain X-Plus 1060. The easiest way to guarantee this is to buy from a reputable brand such as Kryptonite, OnGuard, Abus or Pragmasis. For any claim to be successful, however, you’ll need to make sure you follow OnGuard’s long list of requirements. They’re straightforward, but it’s a long list.
