In that aspect, THE TEACHER is the crème de la crème of psychological thrillers - a masterpiece of illusions with unreliable characters and scandalous over the top twists. When I saw the warning on this book that it may not be for the "faint of heart" I couldn't resist that requesting button.

The story is about a serial killer who is getting all gore happy with some old guys who aren't the nicest people around. It's quite graphic, don't get me wrong, and I've read of people who have put the book down, but I actually didn't think it was as bad as it was. He has been teamed with DS Imogen Grey, who also has a troubled past and has just been relocated from her previous police force. It starts with a teacher, but it seems that no matter your profession, or where you are, if you are on his list, he will find you. Then Addie gets her lunch dumped on the ground by Kenzie and Kenzie sees a copy of the poem SP Nate wrote.

Her latest book should be promoted as the literary equivalent of Pringles: once you pop open the book, there's no stopping! First published in 2009, Hattie’s original book of alchemy, Visible Learning, attempted to illuminate the dark arts of pedagogy through the meta-analysis of hundreds of studies. Hold on to your hat as from early pages the book just sweeps you up in the story until you are desperate to know the why behind the who.Although I enjoyed The Teacher I did find it a slightly disappointing read, I think because of all the hype surrounding this book I expected something more, but in fairness that’s my problem and not the authors. I'm sure many readers will enjoy the book, but I can't say that I did and likely will not be picking up any of McFadden's other novels anytime soon.

In short, what’s needed is a more serious look at the curriculum and a greater focus on what we are teaching instead of how we teach it. From the title I pretty much had the plot worked out in my head, but rather like the book nothing was as it seemed and it wasn’t long before I realised I had been pretty much misdirected by the blurb.

First, the public world that is largely managed by the teacher and features easily-visible lesson activities and routines. Through the eyes of the teachers we come to know intimately in this book, the Teachers will change the way you think about American education. Anyway, if I do read this author again I am going to make absolutely sure every character is over 18, maybe even 21 for good measure. There's a crazy plot hole at the end with the car rides, too, but I won't give anything away with that.

The chosen few are subjected to an unthinkable darkness tailored to inflict the most pain, each having absolute precision and attention to detail. As Exeter suffers a rising count of gruesome deaths, troubled DS Imogen Grey and DS Adrian Miles must solve the case and make their city safe again. After the murder Hudson completely stopped talking to her, but he still helps her clean her locker because he is such a nice guy. As the odd couple accept each others idiosyncrasies, an excellent repartee and witty personal insults evolve to flood the pages. A remarkable piece of storytelling that weaves together the personal trials (and triumphs) of individual teachers with extraordinary reporting about the real, and often toxic, work conditions facing this critical profession.Once again, she has produced a thriller that absolutely smacks you in the face with a jaw dropping final twist of all twists. Hudson and Addie are friends again and Kenzie has stopped bullying Addie and no one is being sexually abused anymore, so I guess everyone is fine? All the characters are easy to picture and are well depicted and I couldn’t help but develop a liking for Abbey and Parker.
