The North Koreans built this one as a gift for the Derg, the Marxist regime that ruled Ethiopia from 1974 to 1991 (the country is now governed by an elected parliament and prime minister). In a campaign that Derg officials named the Red Terror, they slaughtered their political enemies—estimates range from several thousand to more than a million people. The most prominent of their victims was Emperor Haile Selassie, whose death, under circumstances that remain contested, was announced in 1975. As a guest of the king, surrounded by idol worshipers, if Sarah were ever to falter in the worship of Jehovah, this would be the time. But she did not! She emerged not only as a virtuous wife, but as a faithful worshiper of the one true God, grateful to him for the protection he had given her against the many evils of that court.

Mortikah VII is also one of the only sources in the Imperium of psycho-sensitive minerals that accentuate the use of certain psyker powers. The existence of these resources are a closely guarded secret, and the small scale exploitation of them is undertaken under the supervision of the Scholastica Psykana. Even the Guardians are uncertain as to all of the uses that the minerals potentially possess, but the Chapter’s Librarium do use locally sourced materials in the construction of its psychic hoods and other psyker tools. Parfitt said that Ullendorff was concerned after he gave the interview and hoped that Ethiopian authorities did not become aware of the Los Angeles Times article. As far as Parfitt knows, Ullendorff never spoke to a reporter again about what he saw. Unfortunately, their duties of protection, as well as monitoring the higher than average occurrence of the psyker mutation in the native populace of Mortikah VII, means that Librarians are not deployed in strength unless a specific psychic threat has been established beforehand, and as such the Guardians do not routinely field more psykers than their fellow Unforgiven in most circumstances.
