Quote from: RMW on January 26, 2013, 09:47 AM Heading that way myself. I also "imported" a couple replacement cord ends and located a 2-wire extension cord in the proper color, now I have an 8 meter custom cord. This is a conversion kit to make a deimos rhino, not a full model. The side panels are divided in two pieces because I find it's easier to fit them on the actual model this way taking expansion into consideration. ... Sorry that I didn't catch this sooner. The part number is 489685, clearly shown in the first post - but if you were scanning in a hurry you might not have known that those were UK numbers and not US ones.

Since you guys have 110v you'll need the Festool Plug It Conversion Kit 110v part #494910 I believe. The problem I've got is I can't see a way to get the wires out of the plug-it kit (see the picture below) they won't pull out and I've tried tapping the pins on the other side but no joy? I'm getting the impression they are made not to come out? You can also go a bit further like I did to place to connecter closer to the tool. But that takes some more work. Don't forget to insulate the wires. Not much to it really and you get a big increase in user friendliness one (or make several) longer power cable, PowerCon Female at one end and normal mains connector on other If you are living in NA and wish to do this at your own risk you may want to reach out to others willing to help away from the public areas at this point. If you find an error, PLEASE PM me so I can correct it. I'm not asking you to PM me so I can hide a mistake or avoid being embarrassed. I'd simply prefer to make any necessary corrections in this initial post and keep discussions about errors or corrections out of the thread to avoid confusion as people read this in the future.

NOTE: I'm no expert on Deros sanders but I'm sure I read somewhere that it's a standard IEC connector; please don't take my word for it though) One of the most commonly asked questions on the FOG is about using Plug-It cords on other tools. This thread will attempt to answer all those questions. I will endeaver to get everything right the first time, but - contraty to poular belief - I'm not perfect. My understanding (and I could be wrong), is the two choices are 16awg and 18awg. That is what I walked away with after reading the link above: This is a conversion kit to make a deimos rhino, not a full model. The side panels are divided in two pieces because I find it's easier to fit them on the actual model this way taking expansion into consideration. I wish they'd allow dealers to substitute a 16 ga on request (for a small fee, if necessary) when you buy a new tool. Similar to the way you can substitute a 'Holey' rail for the standard one. In which case I'm with Edward - buy a second cable and leave it permanently connected to the boom arm and have both it and a Plug-It attached to an extension lead that is *then* plugged into the CT. I have been VERY careful to only post information and practices that are supported by Festool. Because Festool doesn't specifically offer such a connector, I believe it is against the forum rules to post or discuss such a modification as it would apply the product in a manner that it was not intended, and potentially expose the user to dangerous voltages and possibly unsafe electrical connections.
