Honestly, these shoes are far better than the Pegasus’ I was using before. Those things killed my feet but I feel great after my runs in the Ghost 14’s. One of the forefoot grooves is now partially filled with rubber. This makes the forefoot less flexible and feel more snappy during transitions. There’s a popular saying that goes something like, the more things change, the more they stay the same.

It puts my feet on a steeper downward ramp and I feel like it helps me through transitions more than shoes with a less aggressive drop. The Brooks Ghost is probably the blandest running shoe in existence. If the Ghost was a pizza, it would be a Margherita. It’s very important to know your running gait so that we can advise and fit the correct shoes according to your own individual requirements. Can’t get into store? Try a wet foot testThe initial wear of the outsole rubber, especially on the heel area shows rapid wear after the first couple of runs, however after that, the wear tapers. There’s nothing wrong with a Margherita: it’s a proven flavour combination and it goes down well. You won’t get a funky-tasting processed sausage or cheap, frozen seafood on your Margherita. In fact the two versions are so similar that when I did an A/B test run with one version on each foot at the same time, I really had to concentrate to notice a difference in ride.

It’s one of the best shoes I’ve tested for long runs because of its excellent stability, high level of cushioning and its comfortable upper.

Neutral

The last gripe on the ride is the 12.4mm drop. As a generalist shoe built for the masses, this is just too much drop. It needs to be 6-8 to work well for the majority of runners I think. It feels steep and I just hate steep drop shoes unless they have a specific reason for being so. Ready to go straight from the box This saying aptly applies to the Ghost 14 because it has a new upper, midsole and outsole yet it still rides the same as previous Ghosts. I really don’t get why almost every review on here says “knee pain” in it. I’ve had absolutely no knee pain whatsoever (not even a hint of it) and I’ve put about 200 miles onto these shoes so far. I also weigh over 200lbs, so if it’s anyone’s knees that should be hurting, it’s mine. There is now more outsole rubber on the medial side of the midsole to give the Ghost 14 more medial support since the medial side of the midsole has been changed to a softer DNA Loft.
