John Wick is an American neo-noir comic book limited series written by Greg Pak and drawn by Giovanni Valletta (issues 1–2) and Matt Gaudio (issues 3–5). Talking to Exclaim, Stahelski said these are simply the kinds of things that happen with even the most experienced stunt crew, which makes what they're doing in John Wick much closer to real life.

If it wasn’t for the plot summary, you could have told me anything about this comic book and I probably would have believed you. Just like the first film, the Russians figure prominently in the Wick comics, but it's not the Russians we're used to. The comic series is a prequel to the original film from 2014, much like the tie in video game John Wick Hex.Synopsis: The story of John Wick's first grand mission of vengeance continues in the bloody streets of El Paso! Santino sends his bodyguard Ares to kill John and Gianna's former bodyguard Cassian also pursues John because John killed his ward and he was close to Gianna. I can't really find any difference between this and the dozens of other action hero comics which come out on the market. John is introduced as a legendary hitman who is thrust back into the criminal underworld after Russian-American mobsters assault him, kill his puppy, and steal his car.

After taking revenge on the Tarasovs, John retrieves his prized car from Viggo's brother, Abram, and forms a truce with him.Being a fan of Campbell's theories, Chad Stahelski decided to channel these universal mythological underpinnings into the story and psychology of the John Wick franchise. it’s not, like, amazing or anything, but it is nice to see more of a backstory about how the character became who he is.
